Quote of the Day

Tonight Sharon and I went to a vocal recital at Payap University. We were sitting in the middle of the auditorium during the intermission when the following happened:

me, out loud while pointing to a guy sitting only two seats away: "His body is the one I want"

Sharon: "What! What do you mean?"

me: "his body" followed by much laughter, "his body" followed by more laughter

Sharon: "What?"

me: uncontrollable laughter with tears

Sharon: "Jen! What are you saying about that guy's body?"

Unfortunately I was laughing so hard that I couldn't explain myself and a couple minutes later the recital started back up again.

Fourty-five minutes later, when we were driving home, I was able to explain that the guy two seats down had a really nice camera with several different lenses. I was simply admiring the body of his camera.

Sharon: "And I kept looking at his body trying to figure it out."

Oh the things I say...

You Know It's Hot When

  1. you take three showers a day so that you can handle your own smell
  2. you start sweating as soon as you turn the cold shower off
  3. in order to get dressed without your clothes sticking to you, you stand directly in front of the fan when dressing
  4. you change your clothes three times a day
  5. you leave butt prints on chairs
  6. you stick to vinyl furniture
  7. you never raise your arms because you know you have armpit sweat marks
  8. you don't bother too much with make-up because you sweat it all off by noon anyway
  9. you are dripping and panting after climbing five stairs
  10. the sun dries your laundry in five minutes
  11. plastic bags melt to your car when driving home from the market
  12. you plan your weekends around what restaurants and shopping centers are air conditioned
  13. you watch movies in a foreign language that you cannot understand just because you can rest in the air conditioned theater
  14. you can sometimes be found with your head stuck in the freezer
  15. you dream about shaving your head four nights in a row

Lay It Down

I've been lookin' till my eyes are tired of lookin'
Listenin' till my ears are numb from listenin'
Prayin' till my knees are sore from kneelin' on the bedroom floor
I know that you know that my heart is achin'
I'm running out of tears and my will is breakin'
I don't think that I can carry the burden of it anymore
All of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans,
Are slowly slippin' through my folded hands

So I'm gonna lay it down
I'm gonna learn to trust You now
What else can I do
Everything I am depends on You
And if the sun don't come back up
I know Your love will be enough
I'm gonna let it be, I'm gonna let it go,
I'm gonna lay it down.

I've been walkin' through this world like I'm barely livin'
Buried in the doubt of this hole I've been diggin'
But You're pullin' me out
I'm finally breathin' in the open air
This room may be dark but I'm finally seein'
There's a new ray of hope, and now I'm believin'
That the past is past, and the future's beginning to look brighter now
Oh, cause all of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans
Are safe and secure when I place them in Your hands

So I'm gonna lay it down
I'm gonna learn to trust You now
Oh what more can I do,
Cause everything I am depends on You
And if the sun don't come back up
You know Your love will be enough
I'm gonna let it be, I'm gonna let it go,
I'm gonna lay it down

Tamara = Jerk, Brat, My Other Half

This morning I woke up and turned my computer on to check my email like I always do. My home page is iGoogle which is a personalized version of google. Everything loaded like normal but when I sat downed at looked at the screen, there were little ladybugs crawling around on it.

At that point, some of you may have thought, "Oh, the ladybugs are so cute!" My reaction was, "What the heck is wrong with google?" How do I get rid of them?!"

You see, my entire life I have been afraid of ladybugs. It is one of those unnatural fears that nobody understands but completely takes over a person. I have the same fear of butterflies and if I see either them or ladybugs, I run for cover. Unfortunately my first reaction when really scared is to freeze and burst into tears. There have been times in the past when they have landed on me and I have just stood there crying.

When we were growing up, Tamara used to love playing tricks on me to see if she could scare me enough to cry. One time when I was about 18 years old, I came home around midnight to a sleeping house and made my way to my bedroom on the second floor. When I opened my door, there was a man in a cape outside my window and and ladybugs drawn all over the window. Tamara had a life-sized cardboard cutout of Spock that she had dressed in a cape and hung from the roof outside my window. That along with the ladybugs had Tamara and I both in tears for quite a while, hers because of laughter and mine because of fear.

Anyway, all day today there were ladybugs crawling all over my computer and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of them. It drove me crazy!

Tonight I found out that Tamara hacked into my google account and added a gadget that produced the ladybugs. I should have guessed that it was her! She says that little sisters are supposed to do things like this.

Sometimes I wonder why I love her so very much! :)

Grumbling

I just need to complain that it is almost 6pm and it is still 98 degrees outside. It is cooler than earlier but still awful.

That's all.

Cooler Than Vanilla Ice

In follow up to this, I thought I'd post this video of my new BFF. Sure I've never actually met him, but since his sister is one of my best friends in the world, I figure I can call him my BFF. Maybe someday we will actually meet and I can find out where he got the really cool t-shirt he is wearing in this video!

The Old Man Is Snoring

It is currently only 71 degrees and raining in Chiang Mai, although the humidity is still at a whopping 79%. Sure, it is only 8am and by noon it will probably be 95 degrees with 90% humidity but for now, I will bask in the cool weather with a smile on my face.

I should wake up this early more often!

The Joy of Fasting

Wait, did I say "joy"?

Why is that on fasting days I wake up feeling great and spiritual and ready to spend time with God and then by 2pm I can't even think straight anymore?

Today is my second day of fasting. It is 6:30pm and I just spent the last thirty minutes walking in circles just to keep myself awake. I am hungry and tired and I just want to curl up on the floor and sleep.

I think that I am missing the point of fasting. I need to go spend some serious time with God if I plan on getting through my 3rd day of fasting tomorrow. Pray for me.
